Izvestia SOIGSI. 2026. Issue 59 (98). P.126-133. Abstract: This article examines the short story writing of Boris Beslanovich Mazikhov (1940–2020), a Kabardian writer, publicist, and journalist. He was a member of the Writers’ Union and the Union of Journalists of Russia, an Honored Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation, an Honored Journalist of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and the Republic of Adygea, and a laureate of the Union of Journalists of Russia award. Mazikhov’s work has received some scholarly attention in a number of articles, as well as in reference and encyclopedic publications. However, several aspects of his short story writing remain unexplored. This fact underscores the relevance, scholarly novelty, and value of this study, which aims to fill a gap in the comprehensive study of the writer’s work in general and his short stories in particular. The research focuses primarily on the moral and philosophical foundations of his short stories and on the didactic principles underlying these works. In this context, the short stories “Monument”, “Resentment”, “Khatokh’s Love”, and “Dried Lemon” are analyzed. Key characteristics, such as didacticism and moralizing, are revealed, which are often implicit in literary texts. These characteristics are represented both in the heroes (role models) and in the antiheroes (anti-examples) – the characters in these short stories. The article utilizes a combination of general scientific methods, including observation, analysis, description, hermeneutics, and comparative history. The results achieved can serve as theoretical support for research in the field of Adyghe prose, the study of its short forms, as well as for developing courses on Adyghe (Kabardino-Circassian) literature, and writing qualification and other research papers.
