Izvestia SOIGSI. 2026. Issue 59 (98). P.145-155. Abstract: Songs of Fydyuani / Fiduanei in the Ossetian tradition were part of the cult in honor of the patron saint of strong winds and storms. In the modern ritual situation, both the holiday itself and the song genres that accompanied the ritual are becoming irrelevant. The study employs a comparative-analytical method to examine songs recorded at various points in history. The research materials consist of musical notation found in various archives, as well as the earliest known audio recording from 1936, stored in the Phonogram Archive of the Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House). Preliminary observations based on the analysis of the sources found suggest that all the songs analyzed have common structural features that are not characteristic of religiousmythological songs with hymnal content. A comparative analysis allows us to conclude that the genre of the discovered samples of Fydyiani / Fiduanei songs probably belongs to the epic genre. This is evidenced by such characteristic musical and stylistic features as brevity of presentation, logical and structural completeness, correspondence to a single verse line, uniformity of accentuation, etc. In addition, the article refutes the opinion of some Abkhaz scholars who put forward the theory of the proximity of the Ossetian cult of “Fidyuani” to the Abkhazian “Dziuaua” and “Dad Iuana.” The novelty of the research is due to the lack of specialized scientific works in the field of ethnomusicology devoted to the song in honor of the Ossetian patron of winds and storms. The publication is accompanied by musical notation. Some of the notations have been deciphered by the author of the article and are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
