Abstract:

The article is devoted to the activities of musical and theatrical art workers in North Ossetia during the Great Patriotic War. Composer Z. Gagloev, singer S. Kalaev and other musicians, artists, poets, and artists died a brave death on the battlefield. Musicians G. Gurzhibekov, A. Kokoyti, Kh. Pliev, A. Acheev, M. Bugoev, M. Kopeev, and T. Khosroev defended their homeland with weapons in their hands. Their post-war compositions reflected patriotic anti-war themes. During the harsh times of war, the muses were not silent. The activities of cultural and artistic institutions were guided by the slogan “Everything for the Front! Everything for Victory!” The Ossetian musical and theatrical art of the war years, reflecting a wide range of patriotic ideas, tragic and lyrical-dramatic images and emotions, supported the soldiers and home front workers, and gave them confidence in victory over the Nazis. Composers T. Kokoyti, A. Polyanicheko, E. Kolesnikov, A. Totiev, and B. Galayev, working in the rear, created songs, chamber and orchestral compositions, and musical and theatrical works that boosted the morale of the Soviet people and supported their resilience and unity. The repertoire of the Ossetian and Russian theaters is based on anti-war plays by Russian Soviet playwrights, as well as dramas written by Ossetian authors during the war on topical issues: military-patriotic, historical-heroic, and lyrical-comedic. Special attention is paid to the active work of performing musicians, including students of the Ossetian Opera Studio at the Moscow Conservatory, and actors from the theaters in Ordzhonikidze (Vladikavkaz), who participate in intensive concert and patronage work, as well as in defensive measures to protect the city. The article also discusses the activities of orchestral groups, such as the touring Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra and the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic Symphony Orchestra, which was established in 1944. These musical groups, as well as the Radio Committee Ensemble and the Song and Dance Ensemble, were tasked with performing not only classical compositions, but also promoting folk music and works by Ossetian authors. An analysis of the concert and theatrical performances in Ordzhonikidze (Vladikavkaz) shows that art played an important role in the spiritual life of the people during the Great Patriotic War, and that it became an integral part of the national struggle against the enemy.
